We have been very involved with several local initiatives to expand and improve green space, design urban redevelopment projects, engineer stormwater management solutions and be a part of other great projects in the area. We are committed to being integrated our local community and economy, as a company and as individuals working and living here. Our downtown Carlisle presence keeps us in the midst of the energy and activity of this vibrant community.

The coalition creates lasting connections between organizations whose missions are interconnected and who can mutually benefit from the maintenance of long-term relationships.

Its programs promote the values of self-esteem, service, and respect for others that will be carried through the community from generation to generation. Hope Station also functions in an economic sense, building community capital and offering counsel to community members who are seeking work, the idea being that opportunities for employment begin with a foundation of confidence and community support.

    large_yourlogo-65354-72841“The Carlisle West Side Neighbors are a group of residents who are spreading the gospel about our great neighborhood and looking to improve it along the way.  We started our group in the Spring of 2011 and have been connecting residents who share a love of our North West Corner of Carlisle. We make our presence known at the public meetings related to [various] projects to ensure the voices from our neighborhood are heard.”

    Mission: Carlisle’s West Side Neighborhood is a vibrant, diverse community anchored by many supportive community organizations and churches. We respect the ideas  and opinions of all residents and encourage feedback on ways to strengthen our community through improved safety, security and personal neighborhood connections. Our goal is to look for opportunities to enhance public spaces in our neighborhood through personal and organizational partnerships, address areas of concern by working with local law enforcement, and providing a voice for our residents as the landscape of the West Side changes through the Carlisle Urban Redevelopment Plan.

    Sustainability Mission: Carlisle West Side Neighbors promotes sustainability values by refusing to see dead ends in underutilized spaces. In its revitalization projects, it takes advantage of the inherent capital offered by parks and other often abandoned spaces in order to transform them into community spaces. In doing so, West Side Neighbors brings community members together with a common interest and an avenue for collaboration.

    Love Carlisle logoThe Downtown Carlisle Association promotes tourism and community involvement in the area’s cultural, artistic, and recreational offerings, including current events at the Carlisle Theatre, different restaurants, street fairs, etc.

    LoveCarlisle.com promotes the real heart of Carlisle, focusing on its small businesses and local attractions that may not be as visible to the outside eye. It directs attention towards the historical aspects of Carlisle, inviting visitors and community members alike to revel in a colorful history. Beyond streamlining financial support towards local attractions, it encourages a sense of pride and place for all residents of the Carlisle community.

    Cumberland County Historical Society

    The Cumberland County Historical Society (CCHS), founded in 1874, is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and promoting the rich history of Cumberland County, PA. In order to carry out its mission, the Society maintains a library, archives, museum, and lecture hall on North Pitt Street, a museum shop in the recently renovated High Street building in downtown Carlisle and the Two Mile House in South Middleton Township.

    HISTORY ON HIGH SHOP

    Located inside the unique History on High Shop in downtown Carlisle, the Cumberland Valley Visitors Center has everything you need to plan your trip to Cumberland Valley, PA.  Stop by for valuable visitor information including directions, suggestions and recommendations from trained and friendly staff.  We can provide brochures on arts and entertainment, area attractions, dining and lodging, outdoor recreation, and shopping.  Open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (33 West High Street, Carlisle, PA).

    THE TWO MILE HOUSE

    This magnificent Federal limestone residence was built in 1820 whenWalnut Bottom Road served as a busy thoroughfare for travelers, farmers, and merchants plying their trade.  From 1826 to 1857 it served as The James Given Tavern where many a weary traveler stopped to quench their thirst, spend the night and enjoy the tavern’s simple fare.  CCHS was bequeathed the property by Mrs. Mary Wheeler King in 1992 and has been the proud steward of the mansion, preserving and maintaining it ever since.

    Two Mile House, so-named because of its distance from Carlisle’s town square, contains 12 rooms, 10 with fireplaces featuring Doric-style pilasters and a central panel with oval medallion.  The first floor’s central passage, dominated by an open staircase, is flanked by double parlors and the kitchen boasts an enormous cooking fireplace.

    The mansion including its five acres of landscaped property is on the National Register of Historic Places.
